Breaking news sound effects

Broadcast stings for video, film, and games

Urgent sting

Three brass stabs climbing over a driving low pulse, ending clean rather than fading. The four seconds that tell an audience to stop what they are doing.

Routine headline sting

The same idea with the urgency taken out: two flat stabs and no climb. Use it for a regular bulletin so the urgent one keeps its meaning.

Ticking bed

A steady pulse with a low tone under it and no melody to get in the way of speech. Runs under an anchor without ever pulling focus.

Alert chime

Two hard electronic tones on one pitch. Deliberately flat and mechanical, because a musical chime reads as an app rather than as a broadcast.

Lower third whoosh

A bright rush sliding in and stopping hard with a small click. Cut it to the frame the name strap lands on and the graphic reads as broadcast.

Developing story drone

A low sustained tone with no rhythm at all. The sound of a story nobody has the facts on yet, and the one to run under a long live shot.

Ways to use a breaking news sound effect

Punctuate the cut to the bulletin

The sting on the cut does the work a graphic would, and it works the same in a game news screen or a film that interrupts itself with a broadcast.

Fill a live segment without music

A ticking bed keeps a long piece to camera moving without a track, and because it has no melody it never fights the words on top of it.

Tell the audience how serious this is

Two flat stabs read as a routine headline. Three climbing stabs over a pulse read as an interruption. The sting sets the stakes before the anchor speaks.

Put a broadcast in the next room

A drone and a distant sting under a domestic scene places a television on somewhere off camera, which is how a world event enters a small story.

よくある質問

How do I make a news sting sound urgent rather than routine?
Make the stabs climb. Three hard stabs rising in pitch over a driving low pulse reads as an interruption, while two stabs on the same flat pitch reads as a scheduled headline. Volume does not do it on its own.
Why does my news bed fight the presenter?
It has a melody. Ask for a steady ticking pulse with a low sustained tone and explicitly no melody, so nothing in the bed competes with the pitch range speech occupies.
Can I use a real network theme instead?
A real broadcaster theme belongs to that broadcaster and using it in your own production is a rights problem. Generating a package gives you the same grammar with nothing to clear.
What is the difference between this and the newsroom ambience page?
This is what goes out on air, the stings, the beds, the alert chime. The newsroom page is the room the journalists work in, keyboards and phones and a floor on deadline. Most productions need both, in different scenes.
How do I sell a story that is still developing?
Drop the rhythm. A low sustained drone with no pulse and no melody reads as a story without facts yet, where a ticking bed implies the newsroom already knows what it is reporting.
Can I use these in a commercial or broadcast project?
Yes. Audio generated on a paid Morphic plan is cleared for commercial use, including broadcast packages, advertising, and games.
