Nature sound effects

Forest, water, weather, and wildlife in one place. Describe the stretch of outdoors your scene is missing and Morphic builds it as a clean bed you can lay under picture.

  • Name the habitat, the water, and the wildlife you want in the bed
  • A place that belongs to your project rather than a library favourite
  • Downloads that stay clean when you fade them up under dialogue

Nature sound effects for film, games, and animation

Forest bird chorus

Dozens of small birds calling across each other at different distances. It is the fastest way to make a green frame read as living, and the card most projects reach for before any other.

Shallow stream

Fast water over rounded stone, bright and busy rather than deep. Moving water gives an ear something to track, so a shot with it in feels closer to the audience than the same shot without.

Leaves in the canopy

Dry foliage brushing against itself as branches move, rising and easing in slow swells. It sits far enough back that dialogue stays clear, which makes it the safest bed on the page.

Rain on broad leaves

Individual drops on wide waxy foliage, irregular and soft, with heavier ones falling through. Rain landing on something specific reads as a real place, where a general hiss reads as noise.

Insect chorus

Hundreds of small dry rasps overlapping into one shifting texture. It carries warmth and stillness at the same time, and it tells an audience roughly where in the world they are.

Twig underfoot

One sharp crack with a small splintering tail. Every bed on this page needs an event in it eventually, and a single snap does more for tension than any amount of added texture.

Ways to use nature sound effects

Cut outside and let the ear arrive first

A chorus of birds landing on the first frame of an exterior tells the audience where they are before the picture does. It works the same in a game level and an animated short.

Let running water carry a scene with no dialogue

Moving water holds a long wordless stretch that would otherwise need a score. It is a common bed under meditation audio and travel edits for exactly that reason.

Place a scene in a climate you never travelled to

Dense insect rasp says humid and warm, sparse birdsong says temperate. Swapping the bed relocates a shot without a second unit, in documentary work as much as in drama.

Grow a forest around a set you built indoors

Leaves moving beyond the frame put trees around a stage, a green screen, or a rendered environment that only extends a few metres past the camera.

よくある質問

What counts as a nature sound effect?
Anything outdoors that is not made by people or machines: birds and insects, water, vegetation moving, and weather landing on surfaces. Most of them are beds rather than events, which is why they are written and used quite differently from an impact.
How do I make nature sounds for a video or a game?
Describe the small event the texture is built from rather than the scene. Thousands of drops striking wide waxy leaves gets you rain on foliage, while asking for a forest tends to return a general wash that sits behind everything and belongs to nowhere.
Why does a stock nature bed sound artificial?
Because it usually has no variation and no distance in it. Real habitats have sounds at several depths, changing slowly, so a flat even wash reads as a texture layer rather than a place the characters are standing in.
How long should a nature bed be?
Long enough to run under the whole sequence without repeating audibly, which usually means twenty to thirty seconds or more. Generate the take at the length you need and trim it in the edit, rather than stretching a short one to fit.
How do I keep a nature bed from burying dialogue?
Choose a texture with little energy in the speech range. Leaves and distant birds sit high and low of it, whereas heavy rain and a fast stream fill the middle, so the same shot needs a different bed depending on whether anyone is talking in it.
Can I use generated nature sound effects commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Field recordings are one of the most heavily licensed categories of audio there is, so generating the habitat you need sidesteps a lot of paperwork.
