Boowomp sound effect

The little two-note fall that plays when something goes mildly wrong. Generate it soft and sympathetic, slow and theatrical, or pitched down until it sounds far worse than it was.

  • Set how sad it is, from a soft two-note fall to a long theatrical slide
  • A cue generated for your cut, rather than the one clip that has been on every short this year
  • Download clean audio and drop it straight into your edit
Boowomp sound effect

Failure cues for videos, games, and animation

Soft fall

Two muted notes, the second lower and shorter. Small enough to sit on a minor mistake without making the moment bigger than it deserves.

Theatrical slide

A continuous fall that slows as it drops, rather than two separate notes. The bigger version, for a failure the edit is enjoying.

Deep and dramatic

The same fall pitched far down with a long tail. Out of proportion on purpose, which is the joke when the thing that went wrong was tiny.

Tiny and cute

High, quick, and almost tailless. Reads as sympathetic rather than mocking, which suits anything with an animal or a child in frame.

Wobbling fall

A fall with a slight waver on the way down, as if the sound itself is unsteady. Use it when the failure is still in progress.

Fall into silence

The second note cut dead instead of allowed to ring. Cut on the stop and the silence afterwards carries the beat.

Ways to use the boowomp sound effect

Punctuate a small failure

Land the fall the frame after it goes wrong. Leaving a beat before it lands is what makes it read as a reaction rather than as a sound effect.

Fill an awkward pause without music

A theatrical slide covers three seconds of nothing happening, so a silence after a mistake reads as deliberate comic timing.

Tell the audience how bad it really was

A tiny high fall says it barely mattered. The same fall pitched deep and slow says the opposite, and the gap between the two is usually the joke.

Show a reaction you never filmed

The cue on a static shot does what a cutaway to a disappointed face would do, without needing the face or the coverage.

자주 묻는 질문

What actually makes this sound work?
A descending interval and a short tail. Two notes where the second is lower and shorter reads as deflation in almost any instrument, which is why the cue survives being pitched, slowed, or swapped to a bell.
How do I make it funnier?
Make it disproportionate. A deep, slow, heavily tailed fall on a trivial mistake is funnier than a small one, because the gap between the sound and the event is where the joke lives.
Where exactly should it land in the cut?
A beat after the failure, not on it. Landing it on the same frame reads as a sound effect; leaving a few frames first reads as a reaction to what just happened.
How is this different from a sad trombone?
A sad trombone is four brass notes sliding down and is the bigger, older cue. This is smaller and synthier, usually two notes, and fits a mistake that does not deserve a whole musical phrase.
Why does my fall sound like a musical phrase?
It has too many notes. Ask for exactly two, with the second lower and shorter, and rule out any ring by asking for a gentle rounded tail or no tail at all.
Can I use this in a monetised video?
Yes. Audio generated on a paid Morphic plan is cleared for commercial use. Because the cue is generated rather than lifted from a circulating clip, there is no third-party claim attached to it.
