How do I draw a carved pumpkin so it looks lit from inside?
Shade the background heavily and leave the cut openings as the brightest thing on the page. Ask for light spilling onto the surface just below each cut, which is what tells the viewer the candle is behind the shell.
How do I draw a Halloween pumpkin face?
Keep the shapes angular and asymmetric. Triangular eyes and nose with a jagged grin is the classic, and tilting one eye slightly gives it character. Curved shapes read as friendly rather than spooky.
How do I make the pumpkin look round rather than flat?
Draw the ribs curving with the body and packed closer together near the edges, then deepen the shading in the grooves. State one light direction so every rib shadow agrees with the others.
