Reacting to something off frame

A slow push in on a woman's face as her eyes track something moving off frame left, her expression shifting from neutral to a held, careful stillness, her lips parting slightly without speaking, so an unreadable face at the start has clearly understood something by the end. Nothing else enters frame. A dim interior with one cold window light from the left, deep shadow to the right. 85mm, very shallow depth of field, film grain. About 5 seconds, no loop. <a low sustained tone rising under room silence>.

Edit prompt

Screen light on a face

A vertical close shot on a face in darkness lit only by a phone screen from below, the light shifting in colour and brightness as something plays, her pupils widening and her jaw setting, so a slack face at the start is tense and still lit from below by the end. The phone stays out of frame and only its light is seen. A dark room, no other source. 85mm, very shallow depth of field, film grain. About 5 seconds, no loop. <a faint tinny audio bleed, then silence> (a quiet pulsing synth building under it).

Edit prompt

The door opens on light

A slow push in on a heavy door swinging inward, a hard wedge of white light widening across the floor and throwing a figure into pure silhouette, the room beyond staying blown out and unreadable, so a dark closed doorway at the start is an open one full of light with nothing legible inside by the end. The figure does not step through. A derelict hall, dust hanging in the beam, cold grey walls. Anamorphic, 35mm grain, one continuous take. About 5 seconds, no loop. <a heavy hinge, a low rising drone>.

Edit prompt

The chain goes across

A vertical close shot on a front door from inside as a hand slides the security chain into its slot and lets go, then the hand withdraws and the frame holds on the chain, which pulls taut as something outside tries the door once, so a slack chain at the start is stretched tight by the end. The door itself barely moves. A dim hallway, one warm lamp behind, painted timber. 50mm, shallow depth of field, film grain. About 5 seconds, no loop. <a chain sliding, silence, then a single sharp pull> (a single tense string note held under the silence).

Edit prompt

Out of black, and back

A vertical locked off on pure black where a faint shape slowly resolves out of the darkness, becoming just legible as a hard geometric form at the centre before receding back into black, so an empty black frame at the start is an empty black frame again by the end having briefly held something. Nothing moves laterally. Deep black ground, one cold blue rim of light defining the edge. Film grain, no camera move. About 5 seconds, no loop. <a rising sub bass that cuts out hard>.

Edit prompt

Fingers, then a fist

A vertical close shot on a hand held up against a dark background as it drops one finger, then another, then closes into a fist, the movement getting slightly faster each time, so three raised fingers at the start are a closed fist by the end. The forearm does not move. A dark interior with one hard warm light from the right, skin against black. 50mm, shallow depth of field, film grain. About 5 seconds, no loop. <three low percussive hits, the last one hardest>.

Edit prompt

Steps in and stops

A locked off medium on an empty backlit doorway as a figure walks in from the right, stops dead in the centre of the opening and stands completely still in full silhouette facing the camera, so an empty frame at the start holds a motionless unreadable figure by the end. No feature of the face or clothing is legible. Hard cold backlight through the doorway, haze, everything else in darkness. 50mm, film grain. About 5 seconds, no loop. <footsteps stopping, then a held low tone> (a deep brass hit landing as the figure stops).

Edit prompt

Landing on an empty space

A fast whip pan right from a figure standing at a window to the spot beside her where a second person was a moment before, arriving on empty floor and holding there, so an occupied frame at the start resolves onto bare ground by the end. The pan settles cleanly rather than drifting. A shuttered room with hard slatted light across the floor. 35mm film grain, handheld. About 5 seconds, no loop. <a rush of air, then a hard cut to silence>. No music.

Edit prompt

They all turn at once

A wide locked off on a busy market where every person stops what they are doing and turns to look off frame right within the same beat, conversation dying with the movement, so a crowd facing every direction at the start is a crowd all facing one way by the end. Nobody moves their feet. An open market under flat overcast light, awnings and produce. Anamorphic, 35mm grain, one continuous take. About 5 seconds, no loop. <market noise cutting abruptly to near silence>. No music.

Edit prompt

Neon, and someone walking through

A vertical locked off on a rain-slick street where reflected neon fills the wet tarmac and a figure walks straight through frame from right to left in silhouette, briefly blocking the brightest reflection as it passes, so an empty glowing street at the start is empty again by the end having been crossed once. The camera holds still. Night rain, magenta and cyan signage reflected in standing water. 35mm, shallow depth of field, film grain. About 6 seconds, no loop. <rain, footsteps through water, a distant siren> (a slow synth pulse under the rain).

Edit prompt

The hand on the control

A locked off close on a hand hovering over a single recessed control in a panel, the fingers trembling slightly, then pressing it firmly down and holding it there as the surrounding indicator lights go out one by one, so a lit panel at the start is dark around a held finger by the end. Only the one hand is in frame. A control room, cold instrument light, brushed metal. 85mm, very shallow depth of field. About 5 seconds, no loop. <a heavy switch, then systems powering down> (a descending synth tone).

Edit prompt

A shadow crosses the whole valley

A wide locked off on a sunlit valley as an enormous shadow sweeps across it from the left, darkening the fields, the river and finally the far ridge in sequence before the light returns behind it, so a fully lit valley at the start has been crossed by something never shown by the end. The camera does not move. Late afternoon sun, long grass and a pale road. Anamorphic, 35mm grain. About 6 seconds, no loop. <wind dropping away, a deep low rumble passing overhead> (a single low string note swelling as the shadow passes).

Edit prompt

One match, one room

A locked off medium in darkness as a match is struck, the flare briefly showing a room full of covered furniture and one upright shape at the back, then settling to a small flame that lights only the hand holding it, so a black frame at the start has shown a room and hidden it again by the end. The hand does not move toward the shape. A shuttered interior, dust, dust sheets. 35mm film grain, handheld. About 6 seconds, no loop. <a match striking, a brief flare, then near silence> (a sparse high piano note under the flare).

Edit prompt

Still, then moving, then gone

A locked off wide on a quiet library reading room that holds completely still, then one loose page lifts and drifts, then every paper on every desk lifts at once and the room fills with moving paper, the three stages arriving one after another rather than together, so a motionless room at the start is a storm of paper by the end. The camera never moves. Tall windows, dust in shafts of light, warm wood. 35mm film grain. About 8 seconds, no loop. <silence, one page, then a rushing roar> (strings entering on the second stage and swelling into the third).

Edit prompt

Held on the hilt

A vertical close shot on a hand closing around the hilt of a sheathed sword, the knuckles whitening and the wrist rotating a few degrees as if to draw, then stopping and holding there without the blade moving at all, so a relaxed hand at the start is gripped and still sheathed by the end. The other arm stays out of frame. A dark interior with one warm low light from the left, worn leather and steel. 85mm, very shallow depth of field. About 5 seconds, no loop. <leather creaking, a single low drum hit>.

Edit prompt

Kept out of focus

A locked off close on a pair of hands lifting an object from a table where the focus stays firmly on the hands and the object itself remains a soft unreadable shape throughout, never resolving, so an object on the table at the start is held up and still unreadable by the end. The focus does not shift at any point. A dim room with one hard side light from the left. 85mm, very shallow depth of field, film grain. About 5 seconds, no loop. <fabric shifting, a low sustained tone> (a low uneasy drone through the whole shot).

Edit prompt

One figure, enormous country

A wide locked off on a vast empty salt plain where a single walking figure occupies a tiny part of the frame and moves slowly from left of centre toward the far distance, never getting closer to the camera, so a figure just readable at the start is smaller still by the end. The camera does not move or zoom. Hard flat noon light, white ground meeting pale sky with almost no horizon. Anamorphic, 35mm grain. About 6 seconds, no loop. <wind across flat ground, footsteps on crust> (a lone sustained cello under the wind).

Edit prompt

Something passes the window

A locked off medium on an interior window at night where a large dark mass slides past outside from left to right, close enough that only a featureless section of it fills the glass, taking the whole shot to clear, so a window showing night at the start shows night again by the end having been filled in between. Nothing inside the room moves. A dim room, one lamp, rain on the glass. 35mm film grain. About 5 seconds, no loop. <a deep passing rumble, glass vibrating> (a held dissonant string chord).

Edit prompt

Debris finds the ground

A wide locked off on a city street in the minutes after something has happened, where a thick layer of grey concrete dust already covers the parked cars and the pavement, and fine ash and torn fragments are still coming down through the frame onto that existing layer. A traffic light swings on its wire and one car alarm sounds somewhere off frame, so a street under falling ash at the start is a stiller, deeper-covered street by the end. The debris is grey and heavy, never white or papery, and nothing blows upward. No people and no camera movement. Flat grey daylight through suspended dust, colour drained to near monochrome. Anamorphic, 35mm grain. About 6 seconds, no loop. <a distant ringing, a car alarm, ash settling, no voices>. No music.

Edit prompt

One standing, everyone running

A vertical locked off in a busy street as a crowd surges past the camera from back to front, everyone blurred with movement, while one woman stands completely still facing the other way and holds her ground as they part around her, so a frame full of uniform motion at the start has one fixed point in it by the end. She does not turn. Overcast daylight, muted coats and wet pavement. 50mm, shallow depth of field, film grain. About 6 seconds, no loop. <running footsteps and shouting, muffled> (a slow low pulse under the noise).

FAQs

How do I use these trailer prompts?
Pick any prompt, copy it, and paste it into Morphic. Each one opens with the framing and the move, then names what the shot withholds, so the model reads the beat before the scenery. Change the setting and the tease still works.
What makes a shot read as a trailer beat rather than a scene?
What it refuses to show. A scene resolves; a trailer beat promises. Keep the cause off frame, keep the reveal partial, or end on the decision rather than the consequence, and a single shot starts doing the work of a whole sequence.
Should trailer clips have music?
Most should. A trailer is cut to music, so asking for a score cue in the prompt gives you a clip that already has a shape to cut against. The exceptions are the beats built on silence, where the sound dropping out is the moment, and those carry effects only.
How long should a trailer beat be?
Five to six seconds. A trailer beat is one idea, and it needs enough time to establish a state and change it once. Eight seconds suits a build that escalates in stages, but anything longer stops being a beat and starts being a scene.
Can I use the videos commercially?
The prompts here describe original scenes and fictional subjects, so what you generate is yours to use. Avoid prompting for real logos, trademarks, or a living person's likeness, and keep your final use in line with Morphic's terms.
