FAQs
What is a car start sound effect?
A car start sound effect is the short sequence of a key or button, the starter motor cranking the engine and the moment the engine fires. How long it cranks and whether it catches tells the audience a lot about the car and the moment.
Where can I get car start sounds for a video?
Type the start you want on Morphic and it is generated for you, whether that is a clean first-try catch or a dead battery. Every sound on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can start from one and adjust it.
How do I make a custom car start sound effect?
Describe the key or button, how long the starter cranks and what the engine does after, then generate it. A prompt like "a car starter motor cranking on and on before the engine finally fires" gives Morphic enough to work with.
What is the difference between a crank, a catch and a stall?
The crank is the whirr of the starter motor turning the engine over. The catch is the moment the engine fires on its own and the starter drops away. A stall is the engine dying straight after, which is why a catch and stall reads as bad luck on screen.
Can I use these car start sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated for you, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my car start sound not sit right in the edit?
In most edits the engine fires before the hand finishes turning the key on screen. Start the crank on the frame the key turns and let the catch land a moment later, then hold the idle under the next shot so it does not drop out.
