Fax sounds for games, animation, and video edits
Connection handshake
The rising beeps and harsh warbling screech of two machines connecting, the sound most people mean by fax.
Dialing out
A run of keypad tones and a ringing line, the moment before a message is sent, good for a tense office scene.
Page feeding out
A steady motor whirr as thermal paper scrolls out, the bed under a shot of a long document arriving.
Page cut and eject
A motor whirr, a crisp blade cut and the sheet sliding into the tray, the full stop when a message lands.
Failed connection beeps
Flat error beeps when the line will not connect, a small beat of frustration for comedy or a thriller.
Carrier tone
A high flat whistle with a warbling edge, the raw line sound for transitions, retro tech themes or glitch edits.

FAQs
What is a fax sound effect?
It is a recording of a fax machine at work: the dial-out, the screeching handshake as two machines connect, the carrier tone on the line, and the motor feeding and cutting the paper. The handshake is the part most people recognize, but each stage fits a different moment in a scene.
Where can I get fax sounds for a video?
Generate them from a prompt. You describe the exact stage of the fax your scene shows and get that take, so it matches the picture. Every sound on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can start from one and adjust it.
How do I make a custom fax sound effect?
Describe the stage of the fax and how it ends, then generate it. A prompt like "a fax machine connecting over a phone line, rising beeps, then harsh warbling screeches" gives Morphic enough to work with, and you can adjust the wording until it fits the shot.
What is the difference between a fax handshake, a carrier tone and a dial-up modem?
The handshake is the whole negotiation between two fax machines, beeps then screeching bursts. The carrier tone is the single steady whistle that holds the line. A dial-up modem screeches too, in its own pattern made for a computer connection, so name fax if you want the fax version.
Can I use these fax sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated for you, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my fax sound not sit right in the edit?
Usually the stage is wrong for the picture: a connection screech under a shot of paper sliding out reads as out of sync. Use the handshake while the machine is connecting and the feed and cut once paper moves. A real fax is small, so keep it close and modest in level.
