FAQs
What is a horror scream sound effect?
A horror scream is a vocal take of pure fear, used for jump scares, slasher reveals and creature attacks in films, games and trailers. Pitch, length and the way the scream ends tell the audience how bad things just got.
Where can I get horror scream sounds for a video?
Describe the scream and generate it, which is quicker than combing a library for one that fits your shot. Every scream on this page was made from the prompt beside it, so you can copy one and change the delivery.
How do I make a custom horror scream sound effect?
Write the scream as a sound, like Aaah or Aagh, and put a delivery tag in square brackets before it, such as [deep, guttural terror scream]. Pick a male or female voice, generate it, then sharpen the tag until the scream fits.
What is the difference between a terror scream, a startled shriek and a cut-off scream?
A terror scream is long and full, the sound of someone who sees the threat coming. A startled shriek is short and sudden, made for a jump scare. A cut-off scream stops mid-breath, which tells the audience something happened without showing it.
Can I use these horror scream sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated for you, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my horror scream not sit right in the edit?
Most often the scream lands a few frames late, so trim the lead in until the peak meets the cut. If it sounds too dry for a big space, add a touch of reverb, and pull the score down under it so the voice carries the shock.
Everything on this page is fictional depiction for film, games and creative work. It does not depict real events, and does not place real, identifiable people in them.
Results vary by model. Some models apply stricter content policies than others, so a shot one model declines may generate on another.
