What makes a good sound effect button?
A hard attack and a short tail. A button sound has to land the instant it is pressed and get out of the way, so anything that fades in or rings on for several seconds fights whatever is said next.
How do I build my own soundboard?
Generate each hit, download the mp3 files, and load them into the board you already use, a stream deck, your streaming software, or a soundboard app. The files are ordinary audio, so nothing here is tied to one tool.
Why does my button sound come back almost silent?
It was asked for too short. Anything under about a second and a half tends to return empty, so ask for 1.5 seconds and trim it in your editor if you want it tighter.
