Ways to use an umbrella sound effect
Keep a quiet walk scene going without music
Drops drumming on the canopy carry a long walk where nobody speaks, holding the mood of a video, an audio story or an exploration game.
Edit prompt
Tell the audience it has been wet all day
An umbrella shaken off at the door sets the weather outside before a window is shown, in a sitcom, a podcast drama or a cosy game.
Edit prompt
Let someone arrive at the door unseen
An umbrella folded and fastened just outside says a visitor has arrived, so a mystery, a radio play or a thriller can hold the reveal.

FAQs
What is an umbrella sound effect?
It is a recording of an umbrella in use, the runner sliding and canopy snapping taut as it opens, the rustle and click as it closes, or drops drumming on the fabric overhead. It tells the audience it is wet outside and that someone is arriving, leaving or sheltering.
Where can I get umbrella sounds for a video?
Generate them from a prompt. Describing the umbrella moment you need takes less time than digging through a stock library, and you get the exact take your scene needs. Every sound on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can start from one and adjust it.
How do I make a custom umbrella sound effect?
Describe the umbrella and what it is doing, and ask for it close and clearly audible, then generate it. A prompt like "an automatic umbrella opened with a button, a sharp spring click and a fast whoosh" gives Morphic enough to work with, and you can adjust the wording until it fits the shot.
What is the difference between opening, closing and drops on an umbrella?
Opening is a quick sequence, the runner sliding up and the canopy snapping taut. Closing is softer and slower, a rustle of folding fabric, a click and a strap. Drops on the canopy is a sustained patter that sits under a whole scene and tells the audience the character is sheltering.
Can I use these umbrella sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated for you, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my umbrella sound not sit right in the edit?
Usually the snap of the canopy is a few frames off, or the drops on the umbrella are buried under a general rain bed. Put the snap exactly where the fabric goes taut, and keep the canopy patter a little louder and closer than the wider rain so the umbrella reads as the nearest sound.
