FAQs
What is a yawn sound effect?
It is the sound of a person yawning, often with a word at the end, used to show tiredness or boredom in video, games, podcasts and animation. The delivery changes the joke, from a long sleepy yawn to a polite one hidden behind an excuse me.
Where can I get yawn sounds for a video?
Generate them from a prompt. Describing the delivery you need is quicker than digging through a sound board, and you get the exact yawn your clip calls for. Every clip on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can start from one and adjust it.
How do I make a custom yawn sound effect?
Write the yawn as ahh, add a short word after it, and put the mood in a bracket at the start, such as [yawning, bored] or [yawning, stretching]. Then generate it and adjust the tag until the yawn fits the character.
What is the difference between a long, a bored and a polite yawn?
A long yawn is slow and full, real sleepiness at the end of the day. A bored yawn is flat and drawn out, a comment on how dull the moment is. A polite yawn is short and held back, from someone trying not to be noticed.
Can I use these yawn sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated for you, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my yawn not sit right in the edit?
Usually it does not match the body on screen. Line up the open part of the yawn with the stretch or the open mouth, and trim the tail if it runs past the movement. Keep music low under it, since a yawn loses its shape under a busy track.
