How do I draw the solar system in the right order?
Work outward from the sun: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, then the asteroid belt, then Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. The four inner planets are small and rocky and sit close together, while the four outer ones are far larger and much further apart. Getting that grouping right matters more than exact spacing.
Should I draw the planets to scale?
Not on a single sheet if you also want the orbits shown, because true scale would make the inner planets invisible. The usual solution is two drawings: a diagram with the order and orbits at readable sizes, and a separate strip that lines the planets up edge to edge at true relative size. Say which one you want when you brief it.
How do I draw a planet so it looks like a sphere?
Curve the surface markings around the form instead of drawing them straight across the circle, and put a clear hard edge where the lit side meets the dark side. Add a thin band of reflected light along the shadowed edge so the dark side does not go flat against the background. Never shade the whole circle evenly.
How do I draw the rings on a ringed planet?
The rings are a flat disc seen at an angle, so they read as an ellipse whose near edge passes in front of the sphere and whose far edge disappears behind it. Break the ring where it crosses behind the globe, and cast the planet shadow across the ring on the side away from the sun.
How do I leave space for labels on a science diagram?
Ask for blank label lines or empty boxes rather than typed names, since generated lettering is often inconsistent and hard to correct. Then crop and place your own text on the Canvas, which also means the same drawing can be reused in a different language or for a different assignment.
Can I keep a whole science poster set in one style?
