How do I draw a door in perspective?

The top and bottom edges of the frame run to the same vanishing point, and an open door swings on its hinge so its far edge rises or falls faster than the frame. Draw the leaf thickness at the opening edge, or it reads as paper.

How do I draw recessed panels?

A recessed panel needs a shadow on two adjacent sides and a highlight on the other two, and every panel on the door must use the same two sides. Getting that consistent is what makes the door look carved rather than printed.

How do I draw wood grain without overdoing it?

Grain runs the long way on each piece, so the stiles run vertically and the rails run horizontally. Draw only a few lines per piece, concentrate them near the edges and knots, and leave the middle of each panel mostly clean.

How do I draw an open door with light coming through?

The spill of light is a hard-edged shape that widens as it moves away from the gap, and it takes the angle of the floorboards. Keep the room around it dark and leave the lit shape as bare paper.
