How do I draw a mouth that looks natural?
Start with the line where the lips meet, not with the outer contour. That central line is the darkest mark in the whole feature and it carries the expression on its own. Draw the outer lip edges afterwards and keep them soft, since in life they fade into the surrounding skin rather than ending in an outline.
How do I draw lips so they look three dimensional?
Treat the upper lip as a plane angled away from the light and the lower lip as a plane angled toward it, so the upper stays darker even on a bright face. The small dip above the centre of the upper lip and the shadow directly under the lower one do most of the work.
How do I draw a smile without it looking forced?
A real smile widens more than it opens, and the corners pull back and slightly up rather than stretching the lips thin. Let the upper lip flatten as it stretches, and let the cheeks push up so the lower eyelids are affected too if the face is visible.
How do I draw teeth?
Never outline each tooth. Draw the whole upper row as one shape, shade the corners of that shape where the cheeks shadow it, and suggest only two or three divisions near the centre. Outlined individual teeth read as a grid and flatten the mouth instantly.
How do I crop or clear the background on the Canvas?
Ask for a flat white background with no face or setting around the feature, then crop it on the Canvas to the framing you want. That keeps the study clean enough for a reference sheet, a tutorial layout or a set of matching feature drawings.
Can I keep a set of facial feature drawings in one style?
Use Style Transfer. Lock the look of the first drawing, then apply it as you generate the eyes, the nose and the ear so the line weight, the shading approach and the paper tone stay the same, which matters when the features sit together on one reference page.
