How do I draw the matted hair so it does not look like a hat?
Ask for individual tapering strands coiled into a knot rather than a solid mass. Naming the coil direction, and saying a few strands escape the knot, is what makes it read as hair.
Which medium suits a meditation pose?
Graphite, because soft tonal shading suits stillness. Brush ink suits the dancing pose instead, since the loaded strokes carry the movement that the pose is about.
