FAQs

How do I get the buffalo proportions right?
Put the mass at the front. The shoulder hump is the highest point, the head hangs low from it, and the hindquarters are noticeably smaller and lighter. Naming the hump as the high point in the prompt fixes most proportion problems.
How do I draw the shaggy coat without drawing every hair?
Ask for the long hair only on the head, the beard and the front shoulder, grouped into clumps with a ragged silhouette, and for the rear half to stay short and smooth. That contrast is what makes the animal read.
How do I draw buffalo horns?
Set them as a pair that drops outward from the skull cap, then curves up and in with the tips coming back toward each other. Ask for tight parallel ridge lines on the horn surface to give it weight.
Can I make a buffalo drawing for a print or a shirt?
Yes. Ask for a woodcut ink register or a flat silhouette with carved white gaps, on a plain background. That reduces well to two tones, and you can adjust the contrast on the Canvas before downloading in HD.
What is the difference between drawing a buffalo and a cow?
A buffalo has the pronounced shoulder hump, a much broader and lower head, a beard under the jaw and a shaggy front coat. A cow has a level back and a narrow head, so those two features alone separate them.
Can I keep a set of buffalo drawings in one style?
Use Style Transfer. Lock the look of the first drawing, then run the herd, the calf and the head study through it so the line weight and coat treatment match across the set.
