FAQs

How do I draw corn kernels without drawing hundreds of them?
Draw the rows, not the kernels. Curve a few guide lines around the cob, stagger the kernels between rows, and only detail the ones near the centre. The edges can drop to simple shapes and still read correctly.
How do I draw a corn husk?
Husk leaves are long, ribbed and twist as they peel. Give each leaf a centre rib, let the edges curl away from the cob, and vary the length so the peel looks natural rather than symmetrical.
How do I make the cob look round?
Curve every kernel row so it wraps around the form, and let the rows compress towards the edges. Shade one side of the cob and darken the seams between kernels on that side only.
What is the easiest corn drawing for a beginner?
A cartoon cob: one long rounded shape, a simple grid of kernels and two flaring husk leaves. No shading and a single line weight, which also makes it the best choice for a sign or a label.
How do I draw a corn field that has depth?
Detail only the nearest plants, simplify the middle ground to stems and tassels, and reduce the distance to texture. Keeping the rows converging towards one point on the horizon does the rest.
Can I keep a set of crop drawings in one style?
Generate the corn first, then use Style Transfer so wheat, cotton and other crops share the same line weight and palette. It keeps a poster or a packaging set looking like one piece of work.
