FAQs

How do I draw a couch in perspective?
Build it as a box first, get the top and base edges running to the same two vanishing points, then round the arms and drop the cushions in. Seat height and arm height should stay parallel all the way across.
How do I draw cushions so they look soft?
A cushion is a rounded slab, not a rectangle. Bulge the front edge, let the top dip slightly in the middle, and start the folds at the seams so they fade out toward the centre of each panel.
How do I draw different fabrics?
Velvet has soft edges and light that rolls along the curves. Linen has a visible weave and crisp creases. Leather has hard highlights and deep folds at the seat crease. Name the fabric and the shading follows.
What is the easiest couch angle to draw?
A flat side elevation, because there is no perspective to hold. Three-quarter from the front is the next easiest and it shows far more of the shape, so it is the better choice for a finished drawing.
Can I draw a couch for an interior design board?
Yes. Ask for a clean line elevation and a top-down plan of the same couch with no shading, then place them beside a room view. That set reads the way a furniture spec sheet should.
Can I keep one couch across several room drawings?
Use Style Transfer to hold the drawing style, then generate the same couch in a living room, a loft and a small apartment. The furniture stays consistent because only the room around it changes.
