FAQs

How do I draw a coyote so it does not look like a wolf?
Make it lighter. A coyote has a narrower muzzle, proportionally taller and more pointed ears, a slimmer chest and a tail it carries low when trotting. A wolf is blockier everywhere. Say "lean, narrow-muzzled, tall-eared" and the build changes.
How do I draw coyote fur without drawing every hair?
Work in masses. Ask for coarse guard hairs breaking the outline along the back and the ruff, with the rest of the coat rendered as tone. A few directional strokes at the edges read as a full coat.
What is the best pose for a coyote drawing?
The howl, because the raised muzzle and arched neck make an instantly readable silhouette. A trotting side view is the next easiest, since all four legs are visible and the body stays level.
How do I get the coat colour right?
Coyotes run sandy buff to grey with rust on the ear backs and the legs, and a black tip on the tail. Ask for those three notes specifically. Flat brown reads as a generic dog.
Can I draw a simple coyote for a kid or a school project?
Yes. Ask for an even outline, no shading and a plain background, then keep the pose to a standing side view. The vector line style prints cleanly and can be coloured in by hand afterwards.
Can I keep several animal drawings in one style?
Use Style Transfer. Lock the look of the first drawing, then apply it as you generate each animal so the line weight, fur treatment and palette stay consistent across the set.
