How do I draw a lake step by step, the easy way?
Draw a level horizontal line for the far shore, put a simple ridge or a few trees above it, then repeat those shapes upside down below the line. Add three or four short horizontal marks on the water and stop. Less is better here.
Why does my lake look tilted?
The waterline has to be perfectly level across the whole page, because still water always is. Any slope in that line and the lake reads as a hillside. Draw it with a ruler or say level horizon in the prompt.
How do I draw a reflection in a lake?
Mirror each shape straight down from its own base, not from the centre of the picture. Keep the reflection a little darker and softer than the object, then break it with short horizontal gaps where ripples cross it.
How do I draw still water without leaving it empty?
Use horizontal bands of very light tone with clean paper left between them, tighter near the far shore and wider toward the viewer. That alone reads as a calm surface without competing with the reflection.
How do I show mist over a lake?
Cut the contrast of everything behind the mist and let the bases of the far trees disappear rather than meeting the water. A horizontal band of nearly blank paper across the middle distance does most of the work.
Can I draw the same lake in different light?
