FAQs

How do I draw an idea like language without it turning into a stock symbol?
Pick a physical thing that carries the idea and draw that thing properly. A nib laying down a wet stroke, two hands mid-sign or a book with the page lifting all say language while still being objects with light and weight. A globe with a speech bubble on it says only that the topic is language.
How do I draw text in an image so it does not come out garbled?
Ask for abstract script marks rather than readable words. Image models are unreliable at letterforms at small sizes, and a row of convincing but meaningless strokes reads as writing to the eye. When you genuinely need legible words, generate the drawing without them and set the type over it afterwards.
How do I draw a speech bubble that looks hand drawn?
Let the outline wobble very slightly and let the tail come off the body at an angle rather than pointing straight down. Keep the tail short and attach it where the bubble curve is already turning, so it reads as part of the same shape instead of a triangle stuck on.
How do I draw hands for a signing illustration?
Block the hand as a flat mitten shape with the thumb mass separate, set the wrist angle, then divide the fingers. Draw the gesture from a viewpoint where the important fingers are not hidden behind the palm, since a sign that is unreadable in silhouette will be unreadable at any size.
How do I get a plain background or crop the drawing on the Canvas?
Ask for a flat white background with no setting behind the subject, then crop it on the Canvas to the framing you want. That keeps the shape clean enough for an icon set, a slide or a set of matching editorial illustrations.
Can I keep a set of concept drawings in one style?
Use Style Transfer. Lock the look of the first drawing, then apply it as you generate the other symbols so the line weight, the corner treatment and the palette match across the set, which matters when the drawings run as a series through one document.
