What makes a drawing read as a puppy rather than a dog?
Proportion. Ask for a large rounded head, a short blunt muzzle, big eyes set low, oversized paws and loose skin at the neck. Naming those four or five traits is what separates a puppy from a scaled-down adult dog.
How do I draw puppy fur so it looks soft?
Use short strokes that follow the body contour rather than one hard outline. Ask for denser strokes under the chin and along the chest, and for a slightly broken silhouette so the edge of the coat catches light.
Which puppy pose is easiest to draw?
A sitting pose, because the back legs fold out of sight and the silhouette stays simple. A curled sleeping pose is next. Running and tumbling poses need foreshortening, so save those for later.
Can I draw a specific breed of puppy?
Yes. Name the breed traits rather than just the breed: the ear shape, the coat length, the muzzle length and the markings. That gives the drawing far more to work with than the breed name alone.
