FAQs

How do I draw a road in one-point perspective?
Mark a vanishing point on the horizon, run both edges of the road to it, and keep the centre dashes on the same lines so they shorten and narrow together. Saying "one-point perspective, vanishing point on the horizon" in the prompt does most of it.
Why does my road look flat?
Usually the road edges stay too parallel and the surface carries no tone. Ask for the edges to converge noticeably and for the tarmac to be lighter in the distance than it is in the foreground, and the depth appears.
How do I draw a road drawing for kids?
Use a wide straight or gently curved road drawn in bold even outline, large centre dashes, a kerb each side and no perspective. Big open shapes are easier to colour and stay readable when printed.
How do I draw a winding road?
Think of it as a ribbon: the road narrows as it turns away and widens where it comes back toward you, and the far edge disappears behind the near bank on each bend. Describing it as a ribbon in the prompt keeps the turns believable.
How do I draw road texture without overworking it?
Detail the tarmac only in the near third of the drawing, then let it fall away to plain tone. Stipple or a light hatch in the foreground is enough to tell the viewer the whole surface is rough.
How do I draw a wet road at night?
Reflections on a wet road run as long vertical streaks straight down from each light, broken where the surface is uneven. Keeping the road darker than the sky and the streaks brightest near their source is what makes it read as wet.
