Draw a sky with real weight and depth

Describe the sky you want in Morphic's Image tool, from stacked storm cloud to a thin band of cirrus at dusk. Set the cloud type, the light direction, how low the horizon sits and the drawing medium, adjust the tone on the Canvas, then download it in HD.

FAQs

How do I draw clouds so they look solid?
Give them a lit top and a flat shaded base, and keep the base edge harder than the top. Clouds read as volume when the light comes from one clear direction rather than everywhere.
How do I get depth into a sky drawing?
Make the clouds smaller, flatter and paler as they approach the horizon, and keep the biggest shapes overhead. Naming that in the prompt does more for depth than any amount of detail.
Where should the horizon sit in a sky drawing?
Low, usually around the bottom fifth, so the sky is the subject. Putting it near the middle splits the picture and makes neither the sky nor the ground feel important.
How do I draw a night sky without it going flat?
Vary the star density instead of scattering them evenly, and let the dark tone shift slightly across the frame. Stipple works well because the gaps between the dots do the work.
Can I draw a sky in black and white?
Yes. Graphite and charcoal suit it well, since a sky is mostly about tonal range. State that the drawing is monochrome and let the cloud edges carry the shape.
Can I turn a sky drawing into a moving background?
Yes. Generate the drawing, then send it through Image to Video so the cloud mass drifts slowly while the line work stays put. It works well as a looping header.
