FAQs

How do I draw tiger stripes so they look right?
Treat each stripe as a tapering shape rather than a line, wrap them around the body so they follow the form, and vary the spacing. Even parallel bars read as a pattern printed on a flat surface.
Where do the stripes go on a tiger face?
They run roughly symmetrically down the brow and out across the cheeks, with the pale ruff below breaking them up. Say symmetrical brow stripes in the prompt to keep both sides matching.
How do I draw tiger fur without losing the stripes?
Keep the fur strokes short and directional, and leave the stripe shapes as solid areas rather than hatching over them. The contrast between worked fur and solid stripe carries the drawing.
Can I make a black and white tiger drawing?
Yes. Ask for graphite, charcoal, ballpoint or brush ink and state that the drawing is monochrome. Stripes then read by tone and by the direction of the strokes.
Can I draw a tiger cub?
Yes. Ask for a shorter muzzle, a larger head relative to the body, rounder ears and softer fur. Those proportion cues do more than simply asking for a cub.
Can I keep one tiger design across several drawings?
Use the Character Lineup workflow to lock the design, then reference it while you change the pose or crop so the stripe pattern and colouring stay the same animal.
