Chair

The scrape of chair legs dragged across a wooden floor, the creak of an old seat taking weight, and the clatter of a chair knocked over. Describe the chair and Morphic generates it clean, from a rocker to a swivel.

  • Ask for a scrape on floorboards, a creaking seat or a chair knocked over, and that is the take
  • A chair made for the interrogation room or family dinner table in your scene, on the floor you name
  • Comes as clean, isolated audio you download and lay under the movement in your edit

Make an angry exit land

A chair knocked over on the exact frame someone storms out gives the moment its shock, in a drama, a game cutscene or an animated argument.

A rocking chair creaking carries a long silent shot with no music, in a horror short, an animation, a game or a podcast drama.

Set up a room before the meeting starts

Folding chairs snapped open place the audience in a hall being readied, in a comedy, a documentary, an animated scene or an audio story.

Hint that someone just stood up offscreen

A chair scraping back in the next room says someone is coming, so your film, game or podcast never has to show who it is yet.

FAQs

What is a chair sound effect?
It is a recording of a chair being moved or used: legs scraping on the floor, a seat creaking under weight, a chair falling over, rocking, folding or rolling on casters. These small sounds tell the audience where people are in a room and what they are doing without a single line of dialogue.
Where can I get chair sounds for a video?
Generate them from a prompt. Describing the chair you want takes less time than digging through a stock library, and you get the exact chair and floor your scene needs. Every sound on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can start from one and adjust it.
How do I make a custom chair sound effect?
Describe the chair, the floor and the action, then generate it. A prompt like "an old wooden chair creaking as someone sits down slowly" gives Morphic enough to work with, and you can adjust the wording until it fits the shot.
What is the difference between a chair scrape, a creak and a squeak?
A scrape is the legs dragging across the floor; a creak is wooden joints flexing as weight shifts; and a squeak is a metal spring or caster on an office or folding chair. Each points to a different chair, so match the sound to the chair the audience can see.
Can I use these chair sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated for you, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my chair sound not sit right in the edit?
Usually the floor does not match the picture. A chair scraping on carpet makes almost no sound, while the same chair on tile shrieks, so a hard floor scrape under a carpeted room reads as fake. Name the floor you see and the length of the drag and the scrape sits in the scene.
