TV noise sounds for games, animation, and video edits
Untuned hiss
A wide, steady rush of high hiss, the plain sound of a set with no signal for a quiet scene or a prop in the background.
Mains buzz
A low 50 or 60 cycle electrical hum with a fuzzy edge, the old-set buzz that sits beneath the hiss.
Crackle pops
Random sharp ticks and pops punching through the hiss, a failing or interfered signal.
Tuning sweep
A whistle gliding up and down with bursts of hiss as the dial turns, a hunt for a channel.
Signal dropout
Hiss that chops in and out in stuttering bursts, a connection struggling to hold.
Faint high whine
A thin high tone riding over soft hiss, the shrill edge of an old tube set that is left on.

Ways to use a TV noise sound effect
Fill an empty room with a faint electrical presence
A mains buzz and a high whine keep a quiet shot alive without music, in a horror game, a drama or an audio piece.

Show a signal going wrong
Crackle pops and a stuttering dropout mark a broadcast breaking up, in a thriller, a sci-fi scene or an animated news clip.

Suggest a screen on in another space
A hiss with a tuning sweep leaking through a wall hints at a set nobody is watching, in a mystery, a haunted house level or a radio play.

FAQs
What is a TV noise sound effect?
It is the hissing, buzzing sound an untuned or failing television makes: a wide hiss, a mains hum, crackling pops and sometimes a whistle. People searching for it usually mean that whole bed of noise together.
Where can I get TV noise sounds for a video?
Describe the hiss, the buzz and the extras you want, then generate it. Each sound here was made from the prompt beside it, so you can begin with one and change its brightness or how broken it is.
How do I make a custom TV noise sound?
Open with the mechanism, such as continuous wide hiss of electronic noise, then layer a buzz, pops or a whistle. Say whether it is steady or cutting in and out so the result matches the shot.
What is the difference between TV noise and a power-down sound?
TV noise is the sound of a set that stays on, a steady hiss and buzz, while a power-down is a short event that ends in silence. This page covers the set that keeps running.
Can I use these TV noise sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Each sound is generated for you, so it will not be repeated in someone else's project.
Why does my TV noise sound like plain white noise?
Hiss alone reads as generic static. Add the low mains buzz, a few crackle pops and a thin whine, and let the bed shift slightly so it sounds like a real set rather than a flat tone.
