Child laughing sound effects

The small giggle, the helpless fit, a baby chuckle, a playground of them at once, and the distant version horror has used for decades.

Child laughing sound effects

Children for film, games, and animation

Small giggle

Three or four soft bursts with a breathy end. Short and light, and the breathiness is what makes it read as a child.

Helpless fit

Running on uncontrollably with gasps between bursts. The gasps are what stop it sounding performed.

Baby chuckle

Low and gurgling with rounded bursts. Lower than a child laugh rather than higher, which surprises most people.

A playground

Many children laughing and calling at once, each starting at a different moment. The stagger is what makes it a crowd.

Distant and echoing

A giggle placed far off with a long thin decay. The horror version, and the distance is doing all of it.

Stopping suddenly

A laugh cut off mid-burst with nothing after it. The silence is the event, and it belongs to the same tradition.

Ways to use a child laughing sound effect

Punctuate a moment of joy

A small giggle on the cut does more for a warm scene than a music cue, and it costs two seconds.

Fill an exterior without music

A playground running under a wide shot places a whole neighbourhood around a scene, with nobody in frame.

Turn a scene with distance alone

The same giggle placed far away with a long echoing decay stops being warm. Nothing about the laugh changes, only where it is.

Imply children you never film

A playground beyond a window builds a world around an interior, which is far cheaper than casting and shooting one.

FAQs

How do I get a child rather than a small-sounding adult?
Breathiness and burst length. A child laugh comes in short soft bursts with air behind them, where an adult laugh is longer and more voiced. Pitching an adult laugh up never quite works.
Why is the baby chuckle lower than the child giggle?
Because that is how it actually is. An infant chuckle is low and gurgling rather than high, and prompting for something high and squeaky returns a small child instead of a baby.
How does the same laugh become unsettling?
Distance and decay. A giggle placed far away with a long thin echo reads as a horror trope, and nothing about the performance itself has to change at all.
Why does my playground sound like one child?
It was prompted as a group. Ask for many separate children each starting at a different moment, since the overlap and the stagger are what make a crowd rather than a layered take.
How is this different from the laughing page?
Register. That page is adult laughter, and kids-cheering is a crowd at an event. A child giggle is neither, and a scene that wants one would not accept either substitute.
Can I use these in a commercial project?
Yes. Audio generated on a paid Morphic plan is cleared for commercial use, including advertising, film, and games.
