FAQs
What is a whimper sound effect?
It is a soft, shaky cry made from fear or pain: breathy, high and cut short. It is quieter than a sob and more fragile than a moan.
Where can I get whimper sounds for a video?
Describe the voice and how afraid it is, then generate it. The sounds on this page were each made from their printed prompt, so you can adjust them.
How do I make a custom whimper?
Name the voice, say how frightened it is and add words like breathy, shaky and close. A prompt like "a stifled sob with a gulp" is enough to start.
What is the difference between a whimper and a sob?
A whimper is short and thin and often barely voiced, while a sob is longer with full breaths and chest movement. Say which, or you get a blend.
Can I use these whimper sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. The voice is generated, so it is not a recording of a real person.
Why does my whimper sound like laughing?
Shaky breath can read as a giggle. Add frightened, fragile and a drop in pitch at the end so the tone stays afraid.
