FAQs
What is a hugh sound effect?
It is a short, breathy vocal reaction, somewhere between a huh and an ugh, written out as hugh. People use it for surprise, tiredness, annoyance and giving in, in reaction videos, sketches, games and animation.
Where can I get hugh sounds for a video?
Prompt for the take and generate it. Hugh means different things depending on the breath and the pitch, so describing the delivery finds the right one quickly. Every clip on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can copy one and adjust it.
How do I make a custom hugh sound effect?
Spell the sound as a breath, such as hhuh, and open with a bracket tag that sets the feeling, such as [startled, sharp breathy gasp] or [tired, slumping exhale]. Generate it, and add breathy or grunt to the tag if the voice still reads it as a word.
What is the difference between a hugh, a huh and an ugh?
A huh is a question, rising and short. An ugh is pure annoyance or disgust. A hugh sits between them, a breathy push of air that can be startled, tired or fed up depending on the delivery tag.
Can I use these hugh sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated for you, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my hugh sound like someone saying a name?
Speech models read the letters h-u-g-h as the name Hugh. Spell the sound as a breath, such as hhuh or hhuh, ugh, and put a cue like breathy gasp or sharp exhale in the bracket. Trim any pause before it so it lands on the action.
