Whetstone strokes
Slow gritty passes over a wet stone, a calm, patient sound for craft videos and quiet moments of care.
Folding knife snap
A flick, a snap and a lock click, a short sharp beat for a character who means business or a tense standoff.
Thrown into wood

Blade scrape on metal
A thin high screech as the edge drags along metal, the unsettling sound of a threat that is taking its time.

Ways to use a knife sound effect
Keep a sharpening clip going without music
Slow whetstone strokes carry a craft video or a calm cooking short on their own, leaving room for the hands to tell the story.
Edit prompt
Show a busy kitchen getting ready for service
The rhythm of a knife on a honing steel tells viewers a chef is about to start, in a food film, a podcast scene or a cooking game.
Edit prompt
Let the audience know a blade is out in the dark
A slow scrape along metal from offscreen says someone is armed and close, so your horror scene or audio drama never shows them.

FAQs
What is a knife sound effect?
It is the sound of a knife blade itself, being drawn, sharpened, flicked open, thrown or scraped. The thin steel rings against metal and grinds against stone, so each action tells the audience something different, from careful preparation to a sudden threat.
Where can I get knife sounds for a video?
Generate them. Describing the knife and the action takes less time than digging through a stock library, and you get a blade sound that matches the move on screen. Every sound on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can start from one and adjust it.
How do I make a custom knife sound effect?
Describe the type of knife, what it touches and how fast it moves, then generate it. A prompt like "a steel knife drawn quickly from a leather sheath, a smooth scrape ending in a bright ringing shing" gives Morphic enough to work with, and you can adjust the wording until it fits.
What is the difference between a honing steel, a whetstone and a blade scrape?
A honing steel gives quick bright swipes with a metallic ring, the classic chef sound. A whetstone gives slower, gritty strokes with a wet rasp and almost no ring. A blade scrape along metal is a thin high screech used for tension, the same steel making a much harsher sound.
Can I use these knife sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated for you, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my knife sound not sit right in the edit?
Usually the ring is too big for the blade on screen. A long sword-like shing under a small kitchen knife sounds overdone. Name the size of the knife in the prompt and keep the ring short, then line the end of the scrape up with the frame the blade comes clear.
