Water splash sound effect

Water getting out of the way of something. Say how much of it moves, how deep it is, and how long it keeps bubbling once the thing is under.

  • Say how much water moves and how deep it goes, from a drip to a dive
  • Water recorded for your shot, not the same stock plunge everyone shares
  • Uncompressed audio with the bubbling tail still attached
A crown of water thrown upward around a dark entry point, droplets caught sharp against deep green water

Water splashes for film, games, and animation

Body plunge

A person going in feet first, then the water closing over them. The version most scenes want, because the bubbling second half is what sells the depth.

Stone plop

One small object, one rounded note, and quiet again. Reach for it when the whole point is that almost nothing happened.

Hand slap

A flat palm onto the surface, bright and stinging with spray after it. Nothing goes under, so it reads as play or frustration rather than as an entry.

Bucket pour

A volume of water hitting a hard flat surface and running away. The trickling runoff at the end is the part that tells you it landed on stone rather than in a pool.

Wading steps

Somebody walking through shallow water, one heavy lift and push per step. It runs long enough to sit under a whole shot instead of marking a single frame.

Paddle stroke

A blade entering, pulling, and lifting clear with water running off it. Controlled rather than sudden, so it reads as somebody who knows what they are doing.

Ways to use a water splash sound effect

Land the moment something goes in

A dense burst on the entry frame reads instantly, whether the picture is live action, an animated jump, or a character falling off a platform in a game.

Land the moment something goes in

Keep a quiet shot alive without music

Eight seconds of wading fills a held shot with movement and no melody, so a documentary sequence or a slow game level never feels like dead air.

Tell the audience how still and deep the water is

A single rounded plop with a long quiet after it says calm and deep in one gesture. A slap on the surface says the opposite about the same body of water.

Put a boat just outside the frame

Regular paddle strokes place somebody crossing water you never have to show. It costs one sound instead of a location, a boat, and a day of shooting.

常见问题

How do I make a water splash sound effect?
Describe what enters the water and how much water it moves. Say the mass of the object, the depth it lands in, and whether bubbles close over it afterwards. Mass and depth together decide almost everything about how a splash reads.
Why does my splash sound small?
Usually the tail is missing. A large entry is followed by water rushing back in and bubbling over the top, and that second half is what tells an ear the water was deep. Without it you have the front of a splash and nothing behind it.
How do I make water sound shallow rather than deep?
Ask for a slapping surge with no bubbles under it. Shallow water has nowhere to close over, so it spreads sideways and drains away, while deep water swallows the object and keeps moving for a second or two afterwards.
What is the difference between a splash and a splat?
A splash is water moving out of the way of something, a splat is a soft wet mass arriving on a hard dry surface. If your sound is thick and clinging rather than rushing and open, you have generated an impact rather than a displacement.
How do I make a splash sound distant?
Take the top edge off it rather than turning it down. Ask for the bright droplet detail to be gone and the body dulled, with a faint short echo behind it. A quiet splash still sounds close, just quieter.
Can I use a generated splash sound commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. It also means you can build a water scene without a tank, a hydrophone, or a day spent drying equipment out afterwards.
