Localization

How to take a finished video into another language on Morphic, with translated subtitles, a dub in the original voices, and lip sync.

Localization on Morphic takes a finished video into another market without making it again. There are three layers, and you can stop after any of them:

  1. Subtitles: transcribe the speech, translate it, and caption the video
  2. Dubbing: replace the speech with the same speakers talking in the new language
  3. Lip sync: match the speaker's mouth to the new audio

Each layer is its own step, so you pay only for the ones a release needs.

Localize a video with Copilot

Copilot can run the layers in one chat and keep each result for the next step.

  1. Open Copilot and attach the video
  2. For subtitles, ask for them in the target language, for example "Transcribe this and translate the subtitles to French"
  3. Check the .srt file. Fix any names or terms, then ask Copilot to burn the corrected file into the video
  4. For a dub, ask for it and name the language and the names to keep, for example "Dub this into French, keep the names Mira and Halden"
  5. Ask Copilot to put the dub back on the video
  6. If a speaker's face is on screen, ask Copilot to lip sync the video to the dub

To make several markets at once, name every language in one request, such as "Dub this into Spanish, German and Japanese". Each language is its own dub.

Localize from the Canvas

Every layer except the translated .srt file also runs from the prompt bar:

  1. Dub the audio: 'Audio' > 'Dubbing', then choose the language under 'Dub into'. See Dubbing
  2. Sync the picture: 'Video' > 'Lip Sync', with the video and the dubbed audio as references. See Lip Sync
  3. Caption it: 'Tools' > 'Subtitles', with the language set in Preferences. See Subtitles

Languages and scripts

  • Transcription detects the spoken language on its own. Name it when the audio is noisy or switches languages
  • Dubbing offers a long, searchable list of languages, including regional versions such as 'Arabic (Egypt)' and 'American English'
  • Lip sync follows the audio you give it, in whatever language that audio is
  • Burned-in subtitles use fonts made for Latin-script languages. For languages written in other scripts, such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi or Arabic, deliver the .srt file alongside the video instead

Tips

  • Lock the edit first. Subtitles, dubs and lip sync all follow the cut, so a change afterwards means running them again
  • Test one short scene in each new language before you run a whole episode
  • Proofread translated subtitles with a native reader before you burn them in

That's how you localize a video on Morphic. Reach for it when a finished cut needs to reach a new language.
