How do I sketch a phone so the proportions look right?
Block the whole body as one rectangle first and get its height-to-width ratio down before anything else, because that ratio is most of what makes a handset recognisable. Then set the corner radius as a light arc at each corner and connect them. Drawing the outline freehand in one pass almost always produces a shape that is too square or too rounded.
How do I draw the camera lenses without them looking flat?
Lenses are circles seen in perspective, so on any angled view they become ellipses, and all the ellipses on one face share the same tilt. Draw the minor axis of each ellipse pointing back along the face, then keep every ring concentric to it. A circle drawn true on an angled body is the most common giveaway.
What medium suits a product concept sketch?
Ballpoint or a fine pen for the construction stage, because they force committed lines, then grey marker in two or three values for the render. Marker reads as a designer sketch because it lays flat planes of tone quickly and leaves the paper as the highlight, which is exactly how a glossy body behaves.
How do I make a sketched phone look glossy?
Glossy surfaces have hard-edged reflections rather than soft gradients.
