Should I draw a stingray from above or below?
From above gives you the pattern and the disc shape, which suits a study or a decorative piece. From below gives you the mouth and gill slits, which is the more striking and less common image. The underside is worth doing at least once.
How do I draw the wings so the ray looks like it is swimming?
Ripple them. The disc edges travel in a slow wave, so one wing should be lifting while the other drops, with the curve deepest near the middle of each edge. A perfectly flat diamond always reads as a paper cut-out.
What is the difference between a stingray and a manta ray?
A manta is much wider than it is long, with two horn-like head fins and no sting on the tail. A stingray has a rounder diamond disc, a narrower head and a long whip tail carrying a barb. Name the one you want in the prompt.
How do I draw stingray skin texture?
Keep it subtle. The back is smooth with a slightly raised ridge along the centre line and fine granular texture, not scales. Stipple handles it best, and a little texture near the ridge is enough to suggest the rest.
