Use cases

AI clips to 4K delivery

A 720p generation taken to 4K at 3x. Wood grain, flaking paint and rivet heads come back as texture you can see.

Product close-ups

A packshot at 3x. Brushed metal and glaze sharpen up. Check labels and patterns, since creative mode can redraw small detail.

Faces and talking heads

A portrait at 2x. Wrinkles, stubble and knitwear firm up, and the spoken line keeps playing in sync.

Low-resolution footage

A 360p copy taken to 1080p at 3x. Embroidery and cushion seams come back where the small file had only blur.

Overview

FLUX Video Upscale is Black Forest Labs' video upscaler, built on FLUX 3. It takes a clip to 2x or 3x its size, up to 4K, and rebuilds fine detail as it goes: skin texture, stubble, wood grain, embroidery and single leaves come back where a plain resize leaves a soft blur. The original audio carries through untouched.

BFL released it on August 20, 2026, and announced a full upgrade on October 23, 2026. BFL says the upgraded version is the best video upscaler available, costs less than Topaz Astra 2 and runs about twice as fast.

Precise and creative mode

BFL offers two modes. Precise keeps every frame as it is and sharpens it. Creative rebuilds and invents fine detail, which suits generated footage, textures and scenery. Morphic runs creative mode. Most of the time that is what you want for AI video, but it can redraw small things: in our tests the speckle pattern on a ceramic bottle came back slightly different. Check faces, labels and fine patterns after an upscale.

FLUX Video Upscale on Morphic

On Morphic it appears as Flux Video in the Upscale panel, beside Topaz and Crystal. Select a clip on the canvas, choose Flux Video, pick 2x or 3x, and run it, or ask Copilot to do it for you. Clips can be up to 20 seconds, in MP4. For a walkthrough with before and after frames, read the FLUX Video Upscale guide.

FAQs

What is FLUX Video Upscale?
FLUX Video Upscale is a video upscaler from Black Forest Labs, the team behind FLUX. It uses FLUX 3 to enlarge a clip to a higher resolution, up to 4K, and rebuild fine detail such as skin, fabric and foliage, while keeping the original audio track.
What changed in the October 2026 upgrade?
Black Forest Labs first released FLUX Video Upscale on August 20, 2026, and announced a full upgrade on October 23, 2026. In its announcement, BFL says the upgraded version is the best video upscaler available, costs less than Topaz Astra 2 and runs about twice as fast.
How much can FLUX Video Upscale enlarge a video?
On Morphic you choose 2x or 3x, and output reaches up to 4K. A 720p clip at 3x lands at 4K, and so does a 1080p clip at 2x. Clips can be up to 20 seconds long and 50 MB, in MP4.
Does FLUX Video Upscale keep the audio?
Yes. The original audio track carries through unchanged. In our test on Morphic, a clip with a spoken line came back at 2x with the line still in sync.
What are precise and creative mode?
Black Forest Labs offers two modes. Precise keeps the source as it is and sharpens it, for faces, products and brand shots. Creative rebuilds and invents fine detail, for generated footage, textures and scenery. Morphic runs creative mode, so check faces, labels and fine patterns closely after an upscale.
How is FLUX Video Upscale different from Topaz Astra 2?
Both are creative upscalers that reach 4K, and both run on Morphic. FLUX Video Upscale takes clips up to 20 seconds at 2x or 3x and keeps the audio. Astra 2 on Morphic takes clips up to 5 minutes at 2x or 4x and can raise the frame rate. See [FLUX Video Upscale vs Topaz Astra 2](/resources/compare/flux-video-upscale-vs-topaz-astra-2) for the full comparison.
Does it work on video that was not made with AI?
Yes. Black Forest Labs says it can upscale any video. Upload your own footage to Morphic and upscale it the same way as a generated clip.
How do I use FLUX Video Upscale on Morphic?
Select a video on the canvas, open the Upscale panel, choose Flux Video, pick 2x or 3x and run it. You can also ask Copilot to upscale a clip with Flux Video. It is available on paid plans; the cost depends on clip length and output resolution, and the pricing page has the current plans.
