FAQs
What is a barf sound effect?
It is a comic retch followed by a liquid splash, used for gross-out gags in cartoons, prank videos and games. The surface it lands on, a floor, a bucket or a toilet, changes how the splash sounds and how big the joke feels.
Where can I get barf sounds for a video?
Generate them from a prompt. Describing the barf you need takes less time than digging through a stock library, and you get the exact take your gag needs. Every sound on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can start from one and adjust it.
How do I make a custom barf sound effect?
Describe the retch, the splash and the surface, then generate it. A prompt like "a cartoon retch into a metal bucket, a gurgling heave and a heavy splash" gives Morphic enough to work with, and you can adjust the wording until it fits the shot.
What is the difference between a barf, a dry heave and a burp?
A barf is the full event, a retch and a liquid splash. A dry heave is the gag without the splash, useful as a build-up or a near miss. A burp is a short belch of air with no retch at all, so it suits a lighter joke after a big meal.
Can I use these barf sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated for you, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my barf sound feel too gross or too weak?
Usually the register is off. For comedy, ask for a cartoon barf so it stays wet and silly, and keep it short. If it feels weak, put the splash on the frame of impact and add a dry heave or two before it, so the audience has time to see it coming.
