Make the jam land at the worst possible moment

Printer sounds for games, animation, and video edits
Laser printer printing
A rolling feed whir with a soft thump per sheet, the everyday printer for a desk, a home or a thriller scene.
Inkjet head shuttling
The print head buzzing side to side as the paper steps forward, the sound of a home printer doing a photo.
Dot matrix printing
A harsh rasping buzz line by line, the take for any scene set in the early computer era or a retro game.
Warming up
A rising motor whir and rollers clunking into place, the short pause before the first page comes out.
Paper jam
Rollers grinding a sheet into a crumple and an error beep, the comic or tense moment when printing fails.
3D printer running
Stepper motors whining in shifting pitches as the head moves, the bed for a maker video or a lab scene.

Ways to use a printer sound effect
Keep a quiet desk scene moving with no score
A laser printer feeding page after page carries a wordless shot of someone waiting, holding a video, a game cutscene or a podcast segment together.
Edit prompt
Put the viewer back in the early computer era
The rasp of a dot matrix tells the audience it is beige machines and green screens before the camera finds the desk, in film, games or audio drama.
Edit prompt
Hint that someone just printed the evidence
A printer starting up in the next office tells the viewer the documents are out, so a thriller never has to show who pressed print.

FAQs
What is a printer sound effect?
It is a recording of a printer at work, feeding pages, moving its print head, warming up or jamming, used to put the machine in a scene. Each type has its own voice, so a laser, an inkjet and a dot matrix tell the audience different things about the place and the era.
Where can I get printer sounds for a video?
Generate them. Describing the take you want is quicker than digging through a stock library, and you get the exact type and action your scene needs. Every sound on this page was made from the prompt beside it, so you can start from one and change the wording.
How do I make a custom printer sound effect?
Describe the printer, what it is doing and the texture you want, then generate it. A prompt like "a laser printer printing pages, a rolling feed whir and paper sliding out" gives Morphic enough to work with, and you can adjust the wording until it fits the shot.
What is the difference between a laser, an inkjet and a dot matrix printer sound?
A laser printer is smooth, a rolling whir with a soft thump as each sheet feeds. An inkjet has a print head that shuttles back and forth, so you hear a buzzing whine and the paper stepping along. A dot matrix hammers pins against an ink ribbon, a harsh rasp that marks a scene as older technology.
Can I use these printer sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated for you, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my printer sound not sit right in the edit?
Usually the type of printer in the sound does not match the machine on screen, or the pages come out off the sound. A dot matrix rasp under a sleek modern printer reads as a mistake. Generate the type you see, and line up the thump of each sheet with the page appearing in the tray.
