Ways to use a record skip sound effect

Punctuate an awkward silence with a needle hop

A sharp hop and crunch on the cut makes a joke land or a moment go wrong, in a sitcom, a comedy sketch or an animated short.

Fill a pause with a stuck record

A chord stutter keeps a dead-air gap awkward and alive without any music, in a podcast bit or a game scene.

FAQs

What is a record skip sound effect?
It is the sound of a vinyl stylus jumping out of its groove, a hop, a stutter or a repeating thump. People searching for record skip sounds usually want that glitch, not a DJ scratch or a slowing platter.
Where can I get record skip sounds for a video?
Describe the skip you want and generate it, which is quicker than editing a vinyl rip by hand. Every sound here was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can change the count of repeats and run it again.
How do I make a custom record skip sound?
Say what the needle does and how many times it repeats. A prompt like "a stuck record groove, a single dull thump repeating evenly, six times" gives Morphic a clear pattern to follow.
What is the difference between a record skip and a record scratch?
A skip is an accident: the stylus jumps and the sound stutters or repeats. A scratch is a deliberate hand movement of the disc back and forth under the needle, which makes a rhythmic zig-zag sound.
Can I use these record skip sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Each one is generated for you, not taken from a recorded song.
Why does my record skip sound too clean?
Real skips carry surface crackle and a dull thump from the stylus landing. Add those words to the prompt, and place the hop on the exact frame something goes wrong so the sound reads as a mishap.
