End a flashback with the clunk of an eject
A heavy eject on the last frame snaps the audience back to the present, in a short film, a nostalgic ad or a story-driven game.

VHS tape
The click and motor whir of a cassette pulled into a video player, the high spin of a rewind, and the hiss of worn playback. Describe the VHS tape moment you need and Morphic generates it clean.

- A whir made for your nineties living room or found footage
- Comes back as clean, isolated audio you download and drop on the frame the cassette goes in
VHS tape sounds for games, animation, and video edits
Tape insert
A slide, a click and the motor threading the tape, the most familiar VHS sound and the start of every movie night.
Rewind whir
A high fast spin of reels inside the player, for waiting, a time jump or a scene running backwards.
Eject
A heavy clunk, a whir and the cassette pushing out, a clean ending for a tape, a scene or a whole video.
Playback hiss
Soft tape static with a warbling hum, the bed under found footage, a home video or a retro title card.
Rewind stop
The fast spin winding down to a hard clunk, the satisfying sound of a tape that is ready to watch again.
Case and flap
A plastic case snapping open and the dust flap clicking, the small handling sounds of picking a tape to watch.

Ways to use a VHS tape sound effect
Fill a pause with old tape hiss
Soft playback static holds a quiet stretch of home footage together without a score, in a documentary, a video essay or a podcast intro.
Edit prompt
Take the audience back to a nineties living room
A cassette clicking into the player dates a scene in a second, before any set dressing appears, in film, animation or a retro game.
Edit prompt
Hint that someone keeps watching the same tape
A rewind whirring in the next room says the same footage is being played again and again, so a thriller or audio drama never shows the screen.

FAQs
What is a VHS tape sound effect?
It is a recording of a video cassette and its player at work, the insert and load, the rewind whir, the eject clunk, or the hiss of worn playback. It dates a scene to the era of home video and is one of the quickest ways to signal a memory or old footage.
Where can I get VHS tape sounds for a video?
Generate them from a prompt. Describing the tape moment you need takes less time than digging through a stock library, and you get the exact take your scene needs. Every sound on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can start from one and adjust it.
How do I make a custom VHS tape sound effect?
Describe what the cassette or player is doing, then generate it. A prompt like "a video cassette rewinding inside a player, a high fast motor whir and spinning tape reels" gives Morphic enough to work with, and you can adjust the wording until it fits the shot.
What is the difference between a VHS insert, rewind and eject sound?
An insert is a slide and a click followed by the motor pulling the tape in, so it opens a scene. A rewind is a long high whir of spinning reels that suits waiting or a time jump. An eject is a heavy clunk and a short whir as the cassette pushes out, which works as an ending.
Can I use these VHS tape sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated for you, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my VHS tape sound not sit right in the edit?
Often the mechanical sound and the picture are out of step. The click should land as the cassette seats, and the motor whir should follow once the tape is in. If you also use playback hiss, keep it under the footage only, so the player sounds stay crisp and separate.
