How do I draw a lightbulb so the glass looks transparent?
Leave hard white highlights as untouched paper rather than drawing them in, and let the filament and the base outline show faintly through the glass. Transparency reads from what you can see behind the object, not from shading.
How do I draw the filament inside a bulb?
Draw the two support wires rising from the base first, then loop the coil between them. Ask for a coil that tightens toward the middle. A filament floating with no visible supports is the usual giveaway that a bulb drawing was guessed.
How do I show a lightbulb glowing without it looking like clipart?
Work the surroundings dark and let the bulb stay pale, rather than adding rays around it. If you do want rays, keep them to three or four short even strokes. Long spiky bursts are what make the stock versions unusable.
