How do I draw a realistic moon surface?
Build the craters with texture rather than outlines. Ask for stippling or fine hatching, name a light direction so the crater rims catch light on one side, and leave the brightest areas as untouched paper.
Which moon phase is easiest to draw?
A crescent is the most forgiving, because the shading only has to fade along one curved edge. A full moon asks for even crater detail across the whole disc, which takes more control.
