How do I draw a shoe so it does not look flat?
Draw the foot inside it first, at least loosely. A shoe is a hollow volume built around a wedge that rises at the heel and flattens at the toe, and the upper follows that. Block in the sole as a curved plane that lifts at both ends, sit the volume on it, then add lacing and seams last.
How do I draw the sole correctly?
The sole is not a straight line. It curves up at the toe and again at the heel, and the arch between them lifts clear of the ground so only two contact patches actually touch. Draw that ground line first and mark the two contact points, then let the sole edge rise away from it.
How do I draw laces?
Laces cross in a regular ladder from the toe end upward, and each crossing passes over the one below it on alternating sides. Draw the eyelet pairs first, keeping them evenly spaced and narrowing slightly toward the toe, then run the crossings between them. Let the loose ends fall with real weight rather than sticking out straight.
What is the easiest angle for drawing shoes?
Straight side profile. There is no foreshortening, the sole curve is fully visible, and you can check the proportion of heel height to toe length at a glance. Three-quarter is the next step and the one worth practising, because it is how shoes are shown in most design sheets.
How do I get a plain background for a footwear drawing?
Ask for a flat white paper background with no floor, rack or setting around the shoe, then crop it on the Canvas to the framing you want. A clean silhouette is what makes the drawing usable on a design sheet, a lookbook page or a product mock-up.
Can I keep a set of shoe drawings in one consistent style?
