Car brake sounds for games, animation, and video edits
Emergency stop skid
Tyres locking and screeching as a car stops dead, for near misses, sudden reveals and anything that steps into the road.
ABS judder
The fast pulsing grind of anti-lock brakes under a hard stop, with short tyre chirps, for realistic driving scenes and games.
Squeal at the lights
A thin high squeal as a car rolls to a stop at low speed, for city traffic, a taxi pulling up or a car with tired pads.
Gravel skid stop
Tyres sliding and crunching across loose stones as a car brakes, for country lanes, driveways and a dramatic arrival.
Wet road braking
Tyres hissing and slithering through water as a car brakes, for a stop in the rain, a tense chase or a careful arrival.
Creaking stop
A slow stop with the pads creaking and the body rocking back on its springs, for parking, pulling over or arriving home.

Ways to use a car brake sound effect
Hold a rainy drive home without music
Wet braking at each junction carries a long quiet drive through the rain, keeping a travel video, a game cutscene or a podcast scene moving.
Edit prompt
Tell viewers they are in busy traffic
A brake squeal at the lights sets a congested city road before any car is shown, in film, animation, games and audio stories.
Edit prompt
Imply a car arriving outside unseen
Tyres crunching to a stop on the gravel off screen tell the audience someone has arrived at the house without showing who, in thrillers, games and radio.

FAQs
What is a car brake sound effect?
Every kind of stop sounds different when a car brakes: pads squealing on the disc, tyres screeching in a skid or the pulsing grind of anti-lock brakes. The surface and how hard the driver brakes change it completely.
Where can I get car brake sounds for a video?
You can generate them on Morphic by describing the stop you need, which is faster than auditioning dozens of stock skids. Every sound on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can start from one and adjust it.
How do I make a custom car brake sound effect?
Say how hard the car brakes, what it is driving on and how it ends, then generate it. A prompt like "a car braking hard on loose gravel, the tyres sliding and crunching through stones" gives Morphic enough to work with.
What is the difference between a brake squeal, a skid and ABS?
A squeal is the pads singing against the disc in an ordinary stop. A skid is the tyres locking and sliding across the road in an emergency. ABS prevents that lock-up by pulsing the brakes, which you hear as a fast mechanical grind with short tyre chirps.
Can I use these car brake sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated for you, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my car brake sound not sit right in the edit?
The skid most often starts or ends on the wrong frame. Line up the first screech with the moment the nose of the car visibly dips, and let the sound finish when the car stops rocking, then add a crash or a door after it if the scene continues.
