FAQs
What is a pulley sound effect?
It is the sound of a grooved wheel turning as a rope or chain runs over it: the squeak of the axle, the rasp of the line and the rhythm of each pull. It puts lifting, hauling or lowering into a scene, from a well bucket to a ship crane.
Where can I get pulley sounds for a video?
Generate them from a prompt. Describing the pulley you want takes less time than digging through a stock library, and you get the exact wheel and rope your scene needs. Every sound on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can start from one and adjust it.
How do I make a custom pulley sound effect?
Describe the wheel, what runs over it and how it is pulled, then generate it. A prompt like "an old metal pulley wheel turning as a rope runs over it, a high squeak with each turn" gives Morphic enough to work with, and you can adjust the wording until it fits the shot.
What is the difference between a pulley, a winch and a block and tackle sound?
A pulley is one wheel turning under a moving line, usually a squeak and a rasp. A winch winds the rope onto a drum, often with a motor or a ratchet. A block and tackle uses several wheels in wooden blocks, so you hear long rasping pulls and the creak of the blocks.
Can I use these pulley sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated for you, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my pulley sound not sit right in the edit?
Usually the rhythm of the squeak does not match the hands or the load on screen. A fast squeal under a slow haul looks wrong at once. Match the speed of the pulls, and keep a metal squeak for metal wheels and a woody creak for wooden blocks.
