Ways to use a roller coaster sound effect

Hit the top of the drop on the reveal

Wheels roaring as the train goes over the edge make a big moment land hard, in a travel vlog, a trailer, a game cutscene or an animation.

Stretch the climb before the plunge with no score

The slow chain clack carries a long wait at the top with no music, holding suspense in a film, a reaction video, a game or a podcast story.

Put the viewer at a theme park

A coaster roaring past and fading sets the place in one sound, for a family video, a holiday podcast, an animated short or a park sim game.

A ride rattling just past the trees

A wooden coaster clattering off screen tells the audience the park is close, so a film, an audio drama or a game can keep it out of view.

FAQs

What is a roller coaster sound effect?
It is a recording of a coaster train at a point in the ride: the chain clacking on the lift hill, wheels roaring on the drop, the train passing by or the brakes hissing at the end. Each part has its own shape, so a full ride usually needs several of them in order.
Where can I get roller coaster sounds for a video?
Generate them. Describing the take you want is quicker than digging through a stock library, and you get the exact part of the ride and kind of track your scene needs. Every sound on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can start from one and adjust it.
How do I make a custom roller coaster sound effect?
Describe the part of the ride, the kind of track and where the listener is, then generate it. A prompt like "a roller coaster train climbing a lift hill, the chain clacking steadily over a ratchet" gives Morphic enough to work with, and you can adjust the wording until it fits the shot.
What is the difference between a lift hill, a drop and a pass-by?
A lift hill is the slow mechanical clack of the chain pulling the train up, a drop is the roar of steel wheels as the train plunges, and a pass-by is the rumble that swells and fades as the train races past someone on the ground. The lift builds tension, the drop releases it, and the pass-by places the listener outside the ride.
Can I use these roller coaster sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated for you, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my roller coaster sound not sit right in the edit?
Usually the listening position is wrong. An onboard roar under a shot from the ground sounds too close, and a distant pass-by under a rider point of view sounds too far. Describe whether the listener rides the train or watches from the side, and match the part of the ride to the picture.
