Bezier curve
A smooth curve shaped by a few anchor points and the handles that pull on them
Also called Bézier curve, Bezier path
What is a Bezier curve?
A Bezier curve is a smooth line defined by anchor points and handles. The curve passes through each anchor, and each handle sets the direction and pull of the curve as it leaves that point. In 3D apps, Bezier curves draw paths, cables, logos and outlines.
Think of it like this
Picture a garden hose held at a few spots. Where your hands grip it are the anchors; the way you point each wrist is a handle.

How a Bezier curve works
- 01Click to place anchor points where the curve should pass.
- 02Drag each anchor’s handles to set how sharply the curve bends.
- 03The software draws a smooth line between anchors from those settings.
- 04Give the curve depth or a profile shape to turn it into a 3D object.
Bezier curve vs NURBS
| Property | Bezier curve | NURBS |
|---|---|---|
| Controls | Anchors on the curve, plus handles | Control points off the curve, with weights |
| Feels like | Drawing a vector path | Shaping a precise surface |
| Makes | Mostly lines and simple extruded shapes | Full smooth surfaces |
| Common in | Paths, logos, motion graphics, cables | Car, product and CAD design |
Use Bezier curves for paths, outlines and shapes you draw by hand; use NURBS when a product needs precise, smooth surfaces.
Where a Bezier curve is used
- Camera and animation paths through a scene
- Cables, pipes and ropes given thickness along a line
- Logos and text outlines turned into 3D shapes
Beginner tip
Use as few anchors as you can. Two anchors with well-placed handles make a cleaner arc than six anchors pulling against each other.
