Troubleshooting
Fixes for the things that stop a Compose edit: refusals, grayed-out controls, silent clips and exports that will not start.
Find the problem you are seeing:
- Copilot will not export
- Copilot stops mid-edit
- Undo skips Copilot's edits
- Copilot's change is not visible
- Clip has no sound
- Control is grayed out
- Export does not start
- Export stops partway
- No earlier versions
- Copilot cannot reach the editor
- Wrong framing
Copilot will not export
If Copilot says server-side export is available on paid plans only, or that you do not have enough credits, that is why the export did not start. Copilot exports on Morphic's servers, which needs a paid plan and at least 45 credits to start. On the free plan, click 'Export' in Compose and set 'Render on' to 'This device', which is free. The refusal costs nothing.
Copilot stops mid-edit
If Copilot says the timeline is being edited elsewhere, someone changed it while Copilot was working, so it stopped rather than write over their change. Each edit goes in whole or not at all, and one that did not go in costs nothing. Wait until the other person has finished, then ask again.
Undo skips Copilot's edits
Cmd + Z takes back only the changes you made yourself. To reverse something Copilot did, ask it to undo, or describe what you want back. See Edit with Copilot.
Copilot's change is not visible
Check which timeline tab is open above the preview. A chat that started outside Compose may have built its own timeline, and Copilot links it in the reply. Click the link, or pick the tab, to see it.
Clip has no sound
A video's sound is a separate clip on an audio lane, joined to the picture. Dragging a video onto the timeline places both. If the audio clip is missing, drag the video on again, or ask Copilot to place it.
Check the lane header too: 'Mute lane' silences everything on it, and 'Solo track' on another lane silences this one.
Control is grayed out
- 'Mute clip' is grayed out on a video clip that carries no sound of its own. Mute its linked audio clip instead.
- Nothing on a locked lane can be changed. Click 'Lock track' in the lane header to unlock it.
Export does not start
An empty timeline cannot be exported. Put at least one clip on it first.
Export stops partway
With 'Render on' set to 'This device', Compose renders in your browser, on your own computer, so closing the tab stops it. Leave the tab open until it finishes, or use 'Server' on a paid plan.
A 'Server' export stops with "Export did not finish within the 50 minute render limit" if it runs past 50 minutes. Export a shorter range, or render that one on 'This device'.
A long timeline takes a while. Start it once and let it run; sending the request again does not make it faster.
No earlier versions
Undo covers changes made in your session. There is no version history to roll back to an earlier day, and deleting a timeline removes it.
Duplicate a timeline before trying something drastic. A file can hold as many as you need, so the version that already worked can sit beside the one you are experimenting on. See Start a project.
Copilot cannot reach the editor
If it answers that Compose did not acknowledge a request, the editor and the chat have lost their connection. This affects undo, the one Copilot request that runs in your browser. Reload the page with Compose open and ask again. Copilot reports this rather than answering from memory, so an answer you do get has been checked.
Wrong framing
Check 'Aspect ratio' in the project settings with nothing selected. The preview always shows the shape you set there, so a vertical video framed on a 16:9 project is a project setting rather than a clip problem. Turn on 'Guides' and pick 'Safe areas' to see the margins that stay visible everywhere.
That covers what usually goes wrong in Compose on Morphic. If something here does not fix it, send us the file name and what you were doing.
