Draw a chain and finish it in your browser

Describe the chain you want in Morphic's Image tool, from a repeating line pattern to a heavy rusted anchor chain in full tone, and get a finished drawing back. Set the link shape, the metal finish, the line weight and the paper, refine it on the Canvas, then download it in HD.

FAQs

How do I draw a chain so the links connect properly?
Each link turns ninety degrees from the one before it, so you alternate between a full oval and a narrow edge-on shape. Draw the whole oval, then erase where the neighbouring link passes over it.
How do I make a chain look like metal?
Metal goes from bright to dark in a very short distance. Give each link a hard narrow highlight, a fast drop to dark and a light band bouncing back into the shadow side, and keep the mid tones minimal.
How do I draw a chain hanging naturally?
A hanging chain forms a smooth sagging curve that is steepest at the anchor points. Draw that curve as a guide line first, then place the links along it, tightening the spacing where the curve turns.
How do I draw a rusted chain?
Break up the highlight so it goes patchy, pit the surface with uneven dots, and let the rust bloom around the welds where the metal is weakest. Rust softens the edges that polished metal keeps sharp.
Can I get a chain drawing as a clean repeatable outline?
Ask for even-weight line art with identical links on a plain white background and no shading. Crop it on the Canvas at a whole number of links and it tiles cleanly as a border or a pattern.
How do I draw a chain-link fence without drawing every wire?
Draw the diamond pattern accurately for the nearest section only, then let it compress and fade with distance. Keep the posts and the top rail crisp, because those are what tell the eye it is a fence.
