End a scene the second the screen goes dark
A tube screen popping off on the last frame gives a video, an animated short or a game cutscene a hard, clear ending that needs no music.

Power down sounds for games, animation, and video edits
Sci-fi power down
An electric hum dropping away to nothing, for a spaceship, a laser grid or a suit losing its charge.
Breaker trip
The hard clunk of the power being cut and the hum dropping away, for a blackout or a sabotage scene.
Chiptune power down
A falling run of retro synth notes, the classic sound of a game character losing a power or a life.
Tube screen off
The sharp pop and collapsing whine of an old screen switching off, for an ending or a hard cut.
Turbine spin-down
A big rotor losing speed after the power cuts, a long, slow fall in pitch that ends in stillness.
Robot shutdown
Servos slowly winding down and relays clicking off, for a machine or android going limp on screen.

Ways to use a power down sound effect
Let a machine wind down over a long shot
A turbine slowly spinning to a stop carries a wide shot with no dialogue, in a documentary, a game level or a podcast break.
Edit prompt
Show a ship or base going dark
A sci-fi hum sliding to silence tells viewers the whole station has just lost power, in a sci-fi film, an animation or an audio drama.
Edit prompt
Cut the power somewhere off screen
A breaker clunk from another room tells the audience someone pulled the switch, so a thriller or a game never shows who.

FAQs
What is a power down sound effect?
It is the sound of energy leaving a system: a hum or tone falling in pitch and stopping, a breaker clunking off, a screen popping out or a machine spinning to a halt. It tells the audience that something has just lost power, from a game character to a whole spaceship.
Where can I get power down sounds for a video?
Generate them from a prompt. Describing the power down you want takes less time than digging through a stock library, and you get the exact fall and ending your scene needs. Every sound on this page was made from the prompt printed beside it, so you can start from one and adjust it.
How do I make a custom power down sound effect?
Describe what is shutting off and how the sound ends, then generate it. A prompt like "a sci-fi system powering down, a deep electric hum sliding down in pitch" gives Morphic enough to work with, and you can adjust the wording until it fits the shot.
What is the difference between a power down, a shutdown and a blackout sound?
A power down is the falling tone itself, energy draining out of one device. A shutdown adds the mechanics, relays clicking and motors winding down. A blackout is the cut from outside, a breaker clunk and the hum of everything stopping at once.
Can I use these power down sounds commercially?
Yes, audio generated on paid plans can be used commercially. See our terms for full licensing details. Because each sound is generated for you, you also avoid the clip turning up in someone else's video.
Why does my power down sound not sit right in the edit?
Usually the fall does not end where the picture does. If the lights go out before the tone reaches the bottom, or the hum keeps sinking after the screen is black, the two feel out of step. Line the final click or silence up with the frame the light disappears.
